I was privileged to preach
from Psalm 127 on Sunday. It was a rich time in the Word for all of us as a
congregation. When we looked at the blessing of children in vv. 3-5, the
following quotes were shared. My prayer is that they encourage you as parents. Treasure
those little (and big!) ones in your home. From God’s perspective, they are
greater blessings than any of the riches of this world.
“To
have many children is the next blessing to much grace. To have many children
about us is better than to have much wealth about us….children are more of God
than houses and lands.” – Joseph Carlyle
“[God]
gives children, not as a penalty nor as a burden, but as a favor. They are a
token for good if men know how to receive them, and educate them. They are
‘doubtful blessings’ only because we are doubtful persons. Where society is
rightly ordered children are regarded, not as an encumbrance, but as an
inheritance; and they are received, not with regret, but as a reward.” – Charles
Spurgeon,
Treasury of David, Vol. 3 (p. 85), emphasis mine
