Before the message of the
gospel illuminated our hearts and minds, we were irrational regarding our sin; beyond
the moment of iniquitous delight, we thought nothing of the eternal
consequences that awaited us. Let us praise God that the gospel now assists us
to see with eternal clarity the truth of the following statement, and let us pray
for those in our lives who do not see the forever folly of their transgressions.
God have mercy.
What desperate madness it
is for sinners to bring down on their heads the eternal wrath of God, and this
for the short feast and running banquet their lusts seek after – a joy that
lasts but an hour at best.” – William Gurnall, The Christian in Complete Armor (58)
